Yesterday, the former South Carolina Senator, who always came a distant third to Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama in polls, announced he was dropping his bid for the White House at the same site in New Orleans where he announced his candidacy two years ago. Though he stopped short of endorsing his Democratic rivals, he said he had spoken to them by phone. Explained Edwards: "They have both pledged to me - and more importantly, through me to America - that they will make ending poverty central to their campaign for the presidency." (by J.P.
