Mebrahton "Meb" Keflezighi has lived in the United States since he as 12, been a citizen since 1998, and Sunday, became the first American to win the New York City marathon since 1992.
Naturally, native running fans, and general sports observers alike, were thrilled to have a countryman win the biggest running event on the calendar. Right?
Oh wait, Meb is a native of Africa. And he's from Eritrea, not even a country people have heard of like Kenya. How dare he win races on our behalf?
Remember when we used to love our immigrant tales of struggle leading to success? Maybe Meb should change his name to Tommy O'Toole and sing Danny Boy at the finish line.
If white people can't pronounce his name, it doesn't count.
Way to rain on America's victory parade. Jerks.
