Just when everything was starting to go U.S. Soccer's way ... they lose a key contributor out of no fault of their own. Budding winger Charlie Davies, almost inarguably one of the team's two fastest players and a key contributor to the nation's World Cup qualifying campaign, was injured in a one-car accident outside Washington, D.C. in the middle of the night on Tuesday. He's still hospitalized and underwent nearly five hours of surgery, operations that will end his qualifying campaign and might put his career ... and any potential appearances in next summer's World Cup ... in question. That's a sad thing for Davies and for U.S. Soccer, though it pales in comparison to the sadness facing one of the girls in the car with Davies, who dies at the scene.
