We give Gov. Palin a lot of credit for showing up on SNL after the filleting Tina Fey's given her. Not since Chevy Chase turned Gerry Ford into a stumbling idiot, has public perception been so thoroughly shaped by a Not Ready for Prime Time impersonation.
We felt let down for her, though, because it ended up being a missed opportunity to have some fun with her "Hockey Mom" persona, especially considering that the camera loves her and she doesn't lack for moxie. Where was the Fey/Palin tête-à-tête we all wanted to see? Instead, the VP wannabe passively watched the sketches she was in. And how could her people let notorious left-wing bully Alec Baldwin berate her without giving Palin her own ammunition? Even if she had nailed the Stephen Baldwin line, does the average viewer know Alec's youngest brother is a right-wing evangelical Jesus guy?
Palin's got the comic chops, we saw that at the convention. Too bad nobody let the pit bull out of her cage to take Tina on mano-a-mano piggy lipstick style.
