Compared to the Democratic National Convention, the GOP's event this week is--and continues to be--a subdued affair. Out of respect for Americans suffering through Hurricane Gustav, Republicans pared down the proceedings. The result? Cindy McCain and Laura Bush opening the convention by encouraging party members to donate to the Red Cross.
