Okay, so Slumdog Millionaire is everyone's favorite thing now, and Hugh Jackman is a veritable god. TheDailyTube had a ball watching all these Oscar videos get passed around the net, and now that the dust has settled, we're prepared to give you five of our favorites (in no particular order).
The best thing about Oscar parties really has nothing to do with the awards, themselves. Whip up something nice!
Ellen Re-enacts Oscar Nominees
It's not that Ellen's really all that funny; it's watching Ellen try desperately to be funny that really gets us.
Heath Ledger Wins Best Supporting Actor
And really, we thought that Dark Knight was the best movie we saw all year. Okay, so we love comic books. But, don't spite the movie just because you feel silly giving the award to a dead guy!
Jon Stewart: The George W. Bush of Oscar Hosts
John Oliver is the next big thing. Right after Hugh Jackman, of course. Whatever the case, Jon Stewart is this year's Oscar loser :(
Hugh Jackman, Beyonce, and more!
No one would deny that Hugh Jackman did a great job hosting the Oscars, and we even let him grace our front page over the deal. But you should really get a look at his performance with Beyonce. He REALLY wants America to accept him.
Yea, there's a million other videos out there of cool things that happened at the Oscars, but these were the ones we liked best. If you think you could do better, send us an email, and let us know! It's only once a year we gloat about our Oscar-video-finding skills :P
This video came to us through a friend of a friend. It's a rapper from the Minneapolis rap scene named Ox. He's making waves over there, and we certainly enjoyed his latest offering, titled "The Hustle".
The fact is: more and more, aspiring musicians are using social media to get themselves out there. From YouTube to MySpace to Twitter, harnessing the power of viral social media marketing is bringing new exposure for musicians everywhere. Just look at Tay Zonday! There are counless other music makers that have taken this route, so let's take a look at a couple of the more famous YouTube music phenoms:
Okay, so Will.i.am had something of a career before this, but the "Yes We Can" song of 2008 definitely rocketed him into the public spotlight. If you haven't seen this video before, don't tell anyone. You're the only one in the universe.
Yea, we hate him too. But you can't deny that Chris Crocker took an online reputation based on being a crying Britney Spears fan-freak and turned it into something more. He was in the works for a TV show, but blew it by being stupid. Still, he managed to get a single out, even though it was pretty terrible.
Feist started off as basically no one, until Apple picked up "1234" for an Ipod commercial. She owes most of her success to ITunes, so she should really make sure that Steve Jobs is okay.
There's really too many crossovers to name, and we're sure you've got a few in mind that we didn't mention here. Check out any of these that you haven't already seen (or watch them all over again, if you're so inclined) and send us an email to let us know what you think. Till next time!
Ah, the Rick Roll! One of the internet's greatest memes of all time! It really does never seem to get old, and in honor of today's Fallout 3 Roll, we're going on a trip through memory lane to look at all the times that Rick Astley brought LOLz to our eyes.
After the introduction of the Rick Roll unto the world, there was this beautiful moment in sports history. Rick Rolling: The Great American Pastime.
This pop rock music video doesn't just have Rick Rolling involved. Weezer's hit "Pork and Beans" video features web stars from around the web.
As the campaign boiled down to just Barack Obama and John McCain, this one surfaced. Beautifully edited and wildly funny, this is definitely a Campaign '08 classic.
Vince McMahon Gets Rick Rolled
Then, pro-wrestling wanted to get in on the Rick Rolling business, and dropped a fatty right on drama queen WWE owner, Vince McMahon. Nice!
Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade: Rick Rolled
Finally, Rick Astley came out in the flesh to Rick Roll the entire city of New York in the 2008 Thanksgiving Day Parade. What a guy!
And there's so many more! We can't fit every single Rick Roll into a blog post, so send us your favorite Rick Rolls that we forgot to mention. From Nancy Pelosi, to Jon Stewart, we're sure you've got some favorites, so be heard! And make sure to Rick Roll someone today!
It's been a minute since we got excited for a Quentin Tarantino movie or a Brad Pitt movie. In fact, Tarantino's name hasn't been on anything since Hell Ride, and we all remember how that turned out. Anyway, a new clip of the Tarantino-produced Brad Pitt flick, Inglorious Basterds came out on Entertainment Tonight:
Yea, we know it's short, but it somehow manages to get us interested in what this thing is all about. Both movie men have undeniable talent, regardless of whether or not you like everything they do (we couldn't stand The Curious Case of Benjamin Button). Besides, these two super-famous Hollywood types have provided us with much LOLz on the interwebs.
That said, lets get a few related videos going:
Quentin Tarentino Attacks Paparazzi at Sundance
Here's Tarantino "goin' Bale" on the Paparazzi. How is this not relevant?
The Curious Case of Forrest Gump
Whether you liked this horrible movie or not, you'll have a hard time denying the similarities brought out in this mash up.
Inglorious Basterds is set to hit theatres on August 21, so you've got time. Also, make sure to check back with TheDailyTube to make sure you don't miss the trailer!
So Bill Gates took it upon himself to release a bunch of mosquitoes onto the crowd at this year's TED Conference in the name of curing Malaria. "Not only poor people should have to experience this," he says as he opens the jar. He also consoles the crowd by explaining that the bugs are not dangerously infected, but it's still a pretty crazy stunt. TED.com finally released the video of Gates' talk this weekend:
Doesn't it seem ludicrous? But Gates' interest in curing Malaria is nothing new. He has put millions into researching cures and solutions for the disease in Africa, and it does appear that it's on the verge of being completely wiped out as a threat. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has used the Microsoft millionaire's loot to fund all sorts of good causes under the motto of "All lives have equal value". What a do-gooder!
Incidentally, this also isn't the first time Bill Gates has done something completely strange. Anyone remember the Gates/Seinfeld epidemic the internet had to endure last year? We do:
Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates Enjoy a Family Dinner
